Masonry: Beyond the Details – Rockford, IL
Co-sponsors: IMI, Building Stone Products
Time: 12:30 - 1:30 pm
LUs: 1 HSW
Location: Burpee Museum of Natural History
This seminar is based on the International Masonry Institute's electronic Masonry Detailing Series (www.masonrydetails.org). The program will analyze a variety of conditions found in typical masonry wall systems of the brick and block cavity wall and the brick veneer/steel stud wall. Each system will look at foundation details, window sills and heads, roof-wall connections, flashing, and movement joint details. But the seminar takes the participants beyond the details, simultaneously exploring each condition through construction site photos, failure analyses, building code requirements, and best practice recommendations. Several options will be presented for each construction detail, enabling the designer to make well-informed decisions about the use of masonry. Emphasis will be given to the importance of skilled bricklayers and contractors and their contribution to your masonry building's success. |

"Air barriers are one of the top "no-brainers" for sustainable design."--U.S. Green Building Council
Air barrier systems have been used successfully to increase exterior building envelope performance for many decades in Canada and certain areas of the United States. A properly installed air barrier can significantly reduced building energy consumption and moisture related problems due to condensation. Building owners are discovering that the initial cost of air barriers can be paid back in few years.
Recently, many states have begun to increase enforcement of air barrier requirements with modified code language. Did you know the International Building Code (IBC) refers to International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) which mandates the control of air leakage in both residential and commercial construction?
The differences between air barriers and vapor barriers can be confusing. This seminar with explain the differences and show ample photographs of air leakage problems and solutions in Wisconsin. You will learn how to design and specify proper air barrier systems - not just products. |
