01.030.0306: Base of Wall Detail - Flexible Flashing in CMU, Drip Edge, MDCD

DESCRIPTION / NARRATIVE

Details 01.030.0306 and 01.030.0306.2D (Flexible Flashing in CMU, Drip Edge, MDCD):

This detail is similar to 01.030.0302. The flashing is embedded in the outer bed joint of the CMU. Membrane flashings that are not UV resistant should not be used unless the veneer is scheduled to be installed within a short period of time. Check manufacturer’s literature for maximum exposure time allowed. Some manufacturers of mortar dropping collection devices (MDCD) recommend the flashing be terminated 6” above the device. This places the flashing 16” high at the second CMU course. If the CMU back up is covered with an Air/Moisture/Vapor barrier (AMV) however, the designer may wish to terminate the flashing in the first CMU course (8”) instead, since the wall is protected with a water-proof layer. This is more economical and avoids interference with joint reinforcing and ties which are typically installed in the second CMU course.
