Rain screen wall systems
Masonry rain screen walls have to control the movement of moisture, air, vapor and heat… and look good doing it. They take many forms, from simple, ventilated or pressure-equalized walls to open-jointed cladding systems. In general, they are cladding systems (typically terra cotta, calcium silicate, natural stone or porcelain tile) attached to the substrate with a metal rail support system over an air/water/vapor barrier to let air flow into the wall but not into the building.

Johnson Controls Global HQ Expansion
Innovation and collaboration let a sophisticated masonry contractor deliver a total building envelope with an open-jointed rain screen wall on the 124,400-s.f. LEED Platinum project. Download PDF
Training
Architects and building owners are more likely to specify rain screen wall systems when installed by skilled BAC craftworkers trained by BAC/IMI instructors.
