Green Masonry for Contractors

What is my role in a LEED project?

First, let’s define LEED. It’s a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to provide a uniform way to design high-performing green buildings. Projects earn points that lead to different levels of certification, from “Certified” to “Platinum.”

The LEED™ rating system is based on 5 categories:

  • Sustainable Sites
  • Energy & Atmosphere
  • Materials & Resources
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Water Efficiency

  • CONTRACTORS are responsible for work in four of the five categories.

  • IMI LEED™ Checklist
This easy-to-use Checklist can help projects achieve up to 52 LEED™ points.

How do I get green work?

The first step is to understand the process. The best way to do that is through the IMI Sustainable Masonry Certification Program. The program focuses n the impact of masonry as a building system, not merely as materials.
