June 17 , 2008

WHAT: IMI Masonry Camp
WHEN: July 12-18 and
July 26-August 1, 2008
WHERE: Bowie, Maryland

Week I: Carlos Jimenez, principal, Carlos Jimenez Studio, Houston

Week II: Mark Robbins, Dean, Syracuse University School of Architecture

Masonry Camp is the nationally recognized design/build educational program for young architects and masonry craftworkers. They get hands-on exposure to masonry crafts - brick, stone, plaster, tile, restoration, and terrazzo - and experience each other’s profession. Multi-disciplinary teams solve a design-build exercise, and learn the value of collaboration.

This year’s architectural campers represent 17 firms.

2007 Guest Speakers and Critique panelists:
Carlos Jimenez, principal, Carlos Jimenez Studio, Houston Mark Robbins, Dean, Syracuse University School of Architecture

The International Masonry Institute (IMI) created Masonry Camp more than a decade ago to foster collaboration between designers and builders, and to invest in the future of good masonry design and construction. The program is held at the John J. Flynn BAC/IMI International Training Center in Bowie, Maryland, which was designed by Stanley Tigerman, FAIA.

“Masonry Camp can make an immense change for architecture by breaking down barriers.”
